Position Summary
The Kitchen Steward / Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the school kitchen. This position ensures cleanliness, hygiene, and smooth functioning of food preparation areas, contributing to the overall health and well-being of students through safe and efficient food service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in basic food preparation under the supervision of the head cook or catering supervisor
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen tools promptly and thoroughly
- Ensure proper waste disposal and recycling practices
- Support in receiving, unpacking, and storing kitchen supplies and ingredients
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or expired items
- Follow hygiene and safety protocols in line with food safety regulations
- Help set up and clear dining areas before and after meal service
- Assist with serving meals during peak hours when required
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate in Food Handling or Basic Culinary Skills (preferred)
- Prior experience in a school or institutional kitchen is an advantage
- Knowledge of hygiene and sanitation standards
- Physical stamina and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
