Junior Secondary School Teacher (JSS Teacher)

Position Summary

The Junior Secondary School Teacher is responsible for delivering subject-specific instruction to learners in Grades 7 to 9, in alignment with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The teacher will foster academic excellence, critical thinking, and character development while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Delivery

  • Plan and deliver engaging, learner-centered lessons based on CBC guidelines
  • Use varied instructional strategies to cater to different learning styles and abilities
  • Integrate digital literacy and life skills into subject teaching
  • Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment tools
  • Evaluate learner progress through formative and summative assessments

2. Classroom Management

  • Establish a positive and respectful classroom culture
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with school policies

3. Learner Support

  • Identify and support learners with special educational needs
  • Provide academic and emotional guidance to students
  • Promote inclusive practices and ensure all learners feel valued

4. Parental Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians on learner progress
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school functions
  • Encourage parental involvement in academic and extracurricular activities

5. Professional Development

  • Engage in continuous professional learning and CBC training
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and resources
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and professional learning communities

6. Extracurricular Involvement

  • Support and participate in school clubs, sports, and arts programs
  • Mentor students in leadership and personal development activities

7. Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of learner performance and attendance
  • Prepare reports and contribute to school improvement initiatives
  • Uphold school policies and contribute to a safe and clean school environment

 Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or Diploma in Education with CBC training
  • TSC registration and compliance with teaching standards
  • Specialization in relevant subject areas (e.g., Mathematics, English, Science, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of CBC principles and learner-centered pedagogy
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
